Occupational mobility and social inequality in life course perspective

The team will review the present state of research into occupational mobility and its implications for social inequality in life-course perspective. Four partner institutions are involved, together with one Associate Expert and two Outside Experts from institutions with extensive experience of work in the field in question. A wide range of substantive and methodological issues will be covered, with the aim of identifying the most needed and promising lines of future research, and with special reference to the problems and potential of cross-national comparative work. A review will also be undertaken of the range and type of data sources available for such work. Subject to sufficient convergence of interests and approaches emerging within the team, it is hoped that a proposal will be prepared for a new comparative research project to be submitted to an appropriate funding agency.
